Tokyo bar hopping: Sakura Edition

For a limited time, experience Japan’s iconic cherry blossoms as a part of our special edition barcrawl tour. Relax at a picturesque spot and take in nature’s beauty within the city before joining our guide to a late night pub crawl in the hidden alleys of Harmonica Yokocho district.

A Taste of Spring

Come along with us and enjoy the beautiful cherry blossom trees followed by bar-hopping in Kichijoji. We will meet at Kichijoji station and walk around Inokashira park. You’ll be able to view the gorgeous sakura blossoms around golden hour, the perfect time to take photos. Having a drink while enjoying the trees is classic hanami, or flower viewing, a super popular pass time for Japan during the spring.

After the sun goes down, it’s time to hit the bars! Kichijoji is widely known as one of the best places to live in Tokyo, but many don’t know of its local reputation for eclectic little bars and gastropubs. Some are so off-the-grid that even Google Maps doesn’t know of their existence! Most of these tiny bars are located in Harmonica Yokocho (or Harmonica Alley), which started as a flea market after World War II. Now, Kichijoji and Harmonica Yokocho are home to 1950s themed pubs, record-scratching bartenders, horse meat cuisine, and even a bar where the staff drink with you! Bar hopping in Harmonica Yokocho is for sure the best way to explore the winding maze of historic pubs and eateries in Kichijoji.

The tour takes place in Kichijoji, a place famously known to many as the #1 place to live in Tokyo.

How far is Kichijoji?

It’s about 15 minutes from Shinjuku and Shibuya by train.

Why Kichijoji for Cherry Blossoms?

Kichijoji not only has bars next to a park but the local park is famous for its island zoo, swan boats and other fun activities locals do. So during Cherry Blossom season, it’s a perfect time to see the cherry blossom up close and get some amazing shots while you’re at it. Who knows, you may even make some new friends at the park.

Will I be able to make it back home after the tour ends?

Yes, even if you are staying on the opposite side of Tokyo like Asakusa, Ueno, Tokyo station, you will have more then enough time to make it back home. Last train is usually by midnight so don’t hesitate to head back at your own time.

I don't drink, can I still enjoy the tour?

Of course! This is a lifestyle experience. We encourage anyone who wants to experience the local nightlife of Japan to join and can guarantee it will be an amazing night out!

Why Kichijoji over Shinjuku?

Although Shinjuku isnt out of the question, over the years anyone who has joined the tour and see Kichijoji for what it is, they will realize that Kichijoji is an overall better experience then Shinjuku in terms of local nightlife and people. Shinjuku and Shibuya is filled with foreign tourists which take you out of the element of being in Japan. While Kichijoji is just local japanese folks who are having a drink and enjoying their night out. So this is definitely the best area to experience in Tokyo over the other locations!
